Mr. Charley Pride Comes To Paducah’s Carson Center In 2019.

The Carson Center in Paducah Kentucky has lined up a GREAT 2019 with the likes of Country Music Legend Charley Pride. You know, Charley Pride was the first Legend that I collected all of his vinyls before anybody else.

One interesting thing about the subject of “African American Performers” in Country Music is nobody ever mentions that along the same time as Charley Pride’s zenith, Capitol Records was promoting another black Country artist named Stoney Edwards. Perhaps sometime in the future I’ll write more about that subject…

Kentucky Opry Presents:

A trailblazing singer who became the first black Country Music Superstar, Charley Pride has had an amazing career. From his humble beginnings as a sharecropper’s son on a cotton farm in Sledge, Mississippi, he caught fire with 1967’s ‘Just Between You and Me’, breaking into the Top-10 Country chart and garnering his first Grammy nomination.

Between 1967 and 1987, he amassed 52 Top-10 Country hits and sold tens of millions of records worldwide. In 1971, his #1 crossover hit ‘Kiss An Angel Good Mornin’ sold over a million copies and helped him to win the Country Music Association’s Entertainer of the Year award and the ‘Top Male Vocalist’ awards of 1971 and 1972. It also brought him a ‘Best Male Country Vocal Performance’ Grammy Award in 1972.

A string of unforgettable hits spanning three decades, songs like ‘Is Anybody Goin’ To San Antone,’ ‘Mississippi Cotton Pickin’ Delta Town,’
‘Burgers And Fries,’ ‘Roll On Mississippi’ and ‘Mountain Of Love’, have made Charley Pride a living legend.

His legacy in Country Music history was firmly established in 1993, when he was inducted into the Grand Ole Opry, 26 years after he had first played there as a guest.

Draffenville, KY

The multi-platinum-selling artist who dominated the charts during a hot streak in the ’90’s may have been absent from the radio charts for the past few years, but Joe-Joe-Joe Diffie has never slowed down – writing, touring and recording a myriad of projects including his critically acclaimed 2010 bluegrass album “Homecoming,” and his recent “Roots And Boots” acoustic tour and collaborative CD “All In The Same Boat,” with fellow hit makers Sammy Kershaw and Aaron Tippin.

The folks over in Draffenville Ky at the Kentucky Opry have scheduled a true 80’s and 90’s Legend of the last time I remember REAL Country being played on the radio waves. I mean, how many of you miss that 80s twang like Sammy Kershaw and Travis Tritt?  See, those people ARE STILL active and making music, but the mainstream media wants you to forget them and is even downright ashamed of having any previous affiliation with these acts.

After 1990 he released seven studio albums on the Epic label and gathered thirty five singles on the billboard charts, five of which peaked on number one. I mean, WHO DOESN’T remember “If The Devil Danced In Empty Pockets”? He has achieved twelve other singles on the top 40 charts in his tenure.

Even though we haven’t heard any new music from him since 2010’s Homecoming: The Bluegrass Album, he has maintained a strong road presence and plays many road shows. He has a great stage presence and puts on a good show! Please join me as I go cover this man’s show in the beautiful Land Between The Lakes area.
