Well now, it’s time once again to switch over to Western Swing and Rockabilly as this weekend I am in Nashville covering the Nashville Boogie Weekend. It’s become quite a big recognized national event attended by some of Nashville’s most prestigious authorities on Western Swing Music and other communities.

This event surely has opened my eyes and ears to some terrific music and some new friends within many different communities of music. Many other websites choose to only feature certain narrow subjects, but not me. I choose to Branch out and cover so many others.

The lead singer Miss Laura Palmer was the guest co host of the Rockabilly And Blues Radio Hour this week, as we all prepare for the Nashville Boogie weekend festival. As usual I’m going to be all over the place covering the entire event in the best able form I can. I’ll be with  MANY bands this weekend with interviews and special features.

The Screamin Rebel Angels are playing at the Nashville Boogie this weekend on Friday, and I’ll be there to cover their set. They have a bunch of things going on right now including their brand new album called “Heel Grinder”, and some new videos. This album has thirteen tracks on it and they are as follows.

  1. Ohh My Soul
  2. Baby Gets Down
  3. Heel Grinder
  4. Hands Off
  5. I Believe
  6. Brassy Brown
  7. Something On Your Mind
  8. Sweet Petunia
  9. Where You At
  10. Snake
  11. Iris
  12. The Devil Whispered To Me
  13. Racing Death

A good EP’s purpose is to make the wait for a full length album a little bit easier.  Whether it’s an introductory EP or something to tide fans over between albums number 2 and 3, a good EP can carry some good stuff and should never be overlooked.  Charlie Marie’s second self titled EP feels more like a reboot as this features a fuller, more traditional honky tonk sound than her first 2015 self titled EP. I really dig this sound and can’t wait for more.

The EP kicks off with “Rhinestones”.  It’s thick with pedal steel from Andy Gibson who plays on this record.  This track feels like something that would get dance floors moving.  It is meant to introduce you Charlie Marie and tell you what to expect from this young singer going forward. Another favorite is the stand out “Countryside”.  I love the riff that opens this track and the road trip vibe that carries throughout. This is good stuff. Finally, the track “Shot In The Dark” slows things down a bit. This waltz is the best vocal showcase on the album.

This is a good EP.  It really sells you on Charlie Marie as a traditional honky tonk country singer.  This EP may only be 5 tracks, but these 5 tracks let Charlie Marie showcase every aspect of a sound that is well defined by the end of this.  I for one am looking forward to hearing more of Charlie Marie. You can check out her website here and the self titled EP is out everywhere as of May 3rd 2019.
