The Quebe Sisters are a Progressive Western Swing band out of Dallas, TX.  Instead of featuring the huge band lineup you would find in western swing outfits like Asleep At The Wheel, The Quebe Sisters are the three sisters on fiddle and vocal, Simon Stipp on guitar and Daniel Parr on bass.  This stripped down lineup allows them to do some different things with the western swing genre. The focus is always on three part harmonies and the fiddles, however there are some jazz and traditional country elements in there as well.

A favorite track on this record is “Pierce The Blue” which is more of a country waltz song.  The majority of the track features acoustic guitar and bass backing up the sister’s vocals and it’s a great stripped down song on this record.  “Lonesome Road” starts off slowly before picking up the pace. The guitar kicks into high gear and everything just comes together. This is a great western swing traveling song from the sisters  “Bluegrass In The Backwoods” is my favorite instrumental on the album. It feels like a bigger band is doing this, but it’s not. I love the fiddle work on this track and it is some of the best you’ll find on this album.  “Twilight On The Trail” closes out the record with the sisters delivering their take on the classic Perry Como western trail song. This is a great cover of this classic that often goes unheard. I love the use of the bass for the low end harmonies on this track.

The Quebe Sisters are one of the best bands in all of western swing going today.  They’re also one of the best sibling harmony groups going as well. I hope to get to see them live someday out here on the east coast, though I know that is rare.  Their self titled album is out everywhere you can find good music as of September 20th, 2019.
