Festivals and articles full of information on them nationwide…we got them! This one is special and sacred to many as Planet Bluegrass has been bringing this to us for their thirty year existence, and previous to that it has existed longer than almost any other Bluegrass Festival now. It is documented that is has been around over fifty years, and I did a little research on it.
I do know that the first commercial weekend Bluegrass event was in Fincastle Virginia many years ago, organized by Carlton Haney and Ralph Rinzler. That initial concept has been evolved and capitalized on in various ways throughout the years. Of course now it has been completely taken to the next level but in the 1960s’ it was primitive…Woodstock?
Many of my favorite music functions happen in Colorado, like the Steamboat Musicfest (which I am working on now) and Red Rocks amphitheater. Telluride happens here and so many others, and we cover them all on here. In Lyons Colorado Planet Bluegrass hosts this one, started by Bill Monroe and other members of the Colorado Bluegrass Music Society.
I have an ongoing article about Tim O’ Brien in my home state of Kentucky at the Bluegrass Hall Of Fame and I have some other things going with the Steep Canyon Rangers, and many of the other bands that are included on this lineup and we will be updating this one and our other festival articles!

Lyons, CO – January 27, 2026 – For over five decades now, the world’s finest bluegrass and bluegrass-adjacent pickers have descended on a festival called RockyGrass in the front range of Colorado’s Rocky Mountains with complete freedom to stretch the boundaries of their genre or to honor exactly where it came from, knowing that every patron on the other side of the proverbial curtain will be there to support every musical twist and turn. There’s a reason RockyGrass feels like home to these musicians, from the intimate atmosphere of the festival grounds themselves, to the reunion of old friends backstage or in the crowd, to the range of generational talent topping the bill. This year is no different, with festival producers Planet Bluegrass releasing a RockyGrass 2026 lineup featuring modern-day genre-crossing names like I’m With Her, Punch Brothers, and Rhiannon Giddens, alongside time-tested giants Sam Bush, The Del McCoury Band, and Tim O’Brien. New or old, trad or progressive, the talent routinely booked at RockyGrass turns an already otherworldly location at the stunning Planet Bluegrass Ranch into a vessel for musical exploration and memory making for the ages.
In addition to the aforementioned greats, Steep Canyon Rangers, Kruger Brothers, Della Mae, Tony Trischka’s Earl Jam, and many more will take the RockyGrass stage in Lyons, Colorado, over the weekend of July 25-27.
