The Further Adventures of The Franklin County Trucking Company- The Franklin County Trucking Company<\/p>\n

If you ever wondered what it might be like if a cowpunk band performed nothing but trucking songs, well… wonder no more!  The Franklin County Trucking Company, the brainchild of  \u201cSkinny\u201d Jim Rotramel answers the question. Their second album \u201cThe Further Adventures of ….\u201d continues their mission of bringing 21st century country punk trucking songs to the people.  The band, an all-star agglomeration of sorts, features \u201cSkinny\u201d Jim (guitar) and Taylor Sprehe (drums) of The Number 9 Blacktops, Eddie Spaghetti (bass, vocals) of The Supersuckers, and Sean Hopkins (acoustic guitar, vocals) of Dallas Alice, performing a mix of new and old trucking songs, with the spirit of 60s and 70s country trucking  songs and hard core punk.  In addition, we get several guest appearances from Colonel JD Wilkes of Legendary Shack Shakers on some insanely punk harmonica work.<\/p>\n

The album starts with a straight out punk rocker \u201cDodgin\u2019 Scales\u201d,  opining the risks involved with hauling an oversized load.  Starting the first song with the lines \u201cI\u2019m dodgin\u2018 scales and raising hell, Kentucky bound  headed down to the land of the Commonwealth, I got an oversized load and I\u2019m runnin\u2019 late, pushing 18 wheels to the Bluegrass state,\u201d and with searing guitars reminiscent of Warner Hodges\u2019 work with Jason and the Scorchers or Dan Baird and Homemade Sin, this song sets the tone for the entire album.<\/p>\n

Next up is \u201cTime is Money\u201d, about getting the load in on time by \u201cchasing that long white line,\u201d and features a little 70s style CB chatter.<\/p>\n

After that, we get a real treat, a full out cowpunk version of the old Eddie Rabbitt tune \u201cDrivin\u2019 My Life Away\u201d, and this version flat out kicks A$$!<\/p>\n

JD Wilkes shows up for the first time on \u201cTruck Drivin\u2019 Bastard, Me\u201d and makes his presence known right away on this screamer with some WICKED harp work!<\/p>\n

Next we have the tragic tale of a hard luck woman who becomes a truck stop prostitute,  encounters violence, and exacts her revenge in \u201cPerryville, Missouri.\u201d<\/p>\n

\u201cRunnin\u2019 Strong\u201d and \u201cLonely Life\u201d describe the joys and the downfalls of trucking as an occupation.  \u201cRunnin\u2019 Strong\u201d hits the highlights, describing the freedom that the vocation allows one, where \u201cLonely Life\u201d brings the narrator back to real life and \u201ca lonely life of masturbation and truck stop hot dogs.\u201d<\/p>\n

Following these two is a real treat, an incendiary cover of the Little Feat song \u201cWillin\u2019.\u201d<\/p>\n

Next is \u201cT-R-U-C-K-S-T-O-P\u201d, a rager that sounds a little like Social Distortion exhorting all of the glories of hitting up the truck stop for video poker, videos of Rawhide, cheeseburgers, strong coffee and hot showers.<\/p>\n

Finally \u201cThat Darn Trucker\u201d, about a hapless trucker who gets everything wrong… he gets lost, doesn\u2019t drink coffee, doesn\u2019t use his blinker, and can\u2019t drive a stick shift.  It\u2019s a hilarious end to a very very fun 31 minute album.<\/p>\n

I don\u2019t know if they\u2019ll do any live shows in support of the record, but if they do, I know I\u2019ll go see them.  If they don\u2019t, be sure to go see The Number Nine Blacktops when they hit your town, as their leader, Jim Rotramel,  is the braintrust behind this collaboration.<\/p>\n

I\u2019d give this one 8.5 out of 10.<\/p>\n
