Jordan Tice gets Grammy Nomination for his work with The John Hartford Fiddle Tune Project<\/h2>\n

Nashville Guitarist Jordan Tice<\/strong> just got a Grammy nomination for Best Bluegrass Album<\/strong> this week for his work on The John Hartford Fiddle Tune Project, Volume 1<\/strong>. Pulling together unheard compositions from Hartford’s pen intended as fiddle tunes, Jordan joined Hawktail<\/strong> band members Brittany Haas<\/strong> and Paul Kowert<\/strong> (of the Punch Bros) plus banjo master Alison Brown<\/strong> and mandolinist Dominic Leslie<\/strong> to play guitar on two fiddle tunes:<\/td>\n<\/tr>\n<\/tbody>\n<\/table>\n<\/td>\n<\/tr>\n<\/tbody>\n<\/table>\n\n\n\n

It\u2019s not that Jordan Tice<\/strong> is living on the fringes of Nashville, holed up during quarantine in a little house in Madison, Tennessee. It\u2019s that he\u2019s living in a Nashville that\u2019s based more on the community roots of the music than on the glitz of country stars in secluded recording studios. He\u2019s living in a Nashville that\u2019s moved even beyond East Nashville\u2019s underground Americana scene to a more free-wheeling house session community based in Madison. Late night cosmic Americana picking parties at Dee\u2019s Country Cocktail Lounge, or back porch sessions within spitting distance of John Hartford\u2019s cottage next to the lazy Cumberland River, it all lends a spontaneity to the music that\u2019s based on the joy of invention and creativity and less on finger-busting virtuosity. Tice is a collaborator by nature, known for his work with groundbreaking progressive stringband Hawktail (featuring Brittany Haas and Paul Kowert of the Punch Brothers), but his new album, Motivational Speakeasy<\/strong><\/em> (coming September 25, 2020), is a solo affair, just Tice and his beloved and well-worn Collings guitar. Hawktail\u2019s music showcases Tice\u2019s remarkable instrumental skill, and here his guitar work is as crisp and intricate as ever, informed by everything from classical ragtime to psychedelic newgrass.
