Folks tonight I was writing an article about another Country Legend during

Outlaw Fest 2014 and my phone rang and I was told that Steel Guitar Legend

Dickey Overbey was being called home to Heaven very soon.

At the time I write this article HE IS still with us and I would like to

write about his awesome life and what he has given to Country Music.

As of right now he is resting at home under hospice care and is comfortable

and being loved on.

Dickey Overbey arrived in Nashville at 17 to begin a career as a writer.

Shortly after he developed an interest in the Steel Guitar and began

working for Faron Young.

He Played for Faron during his Capitol years from 1954 to 1962 and

began playing for Connie Smith, Darrell McCall, Johnny Bush, Ronnie Milsap

and Hank Williams Jr.

He wrote such songs as “Sally Bryson” and “Hide And Go Cheat” both

cut by Darrell McCall in 1968 and 1970 respectively.

His Steel Guitar work appears on some of George Jones United artists recordings

and Johnny Paycheck’s early works from 1966-1979 when he was “The Little Darlin”.

He appears on Justin Trevino’s album “Too Many Heartaches” and on

some of Darrell McCall’s albums “Reunion” and “Old Memories And Wine”.

He has been unable to play since spring of this year and was last playing with

Tommy Hooker and has also played with his step daughter Amber Digby and The Midnight Flyer.

Bobby Flores, Tommy Alverson, Tony Booth, Curtis Potter.

And folks the list goes on and on.

Much like Dallas Frazier he also became a minister as well

spreading the word of God all over the area.

I’ll be adding to this article as time passes and arrangements are made.
