Almost Proud is packed with songs from a wide variety of writers—well known and obscure—and includes a few performances from old friends. There are new songs like the aforementioned “Running Wild” and “Almost Proud,” a song written by his good friends Eric Gibson and Mike Barber that was cut just hours after it was written. Just like his live performances, McCoury started Almost Proud with his regular point of view: “If I’m not interested, how can I expect the audience to be?” At the end of the day, Del may be almost proud of what he’s accomplished, but he’s always proud of the music he records.

With all of the fun going on right now at DelFest, I found it pertinent to post some exciting information on the new album from Mr. Del McCourry. He and his band of family is now being featured in a plethora of music festivals that I could name here in 2022, and this ( may be an inaccurate count ) is his 26th album ( including his solo albums ).

To say that Mr. Del McCouury is a Bluegrass Legend would be an understatement. He has embellished not only Bluegrass Music, but many other genres as well. He has influenced and mentored a long list of other artists, he has ardently upheld his Opry membership appearances and he holds true the traditions and dignity of Bluegrass.

Even though the songs on this album bare a strong affinity for alcohol consumption and other social misfit deeds, you can easily see the purity and love he has for the traditions of the past in his new songs. Even right now, Mr. Vince Gill remains one of the most overlooked stars of the 1990’s and I fully regard him as a Country Music Legend just as much as the ones whom came before him.

Nashville superstars Del McCoury and Vince Gill are singing together on the latest single from The Del McCoury Band. Honky Tonk Nights finds Vince and Del trading verses, and tenoring each other. Oh my!

The song has that funky, bluesy sound that Del and the Boys have made famous, and will be included on their next album, Almost Proud, set for release on February 18.

Vince shows that he hasn’t forgotten a thing from his years in bluegrass before hitting it big in country music. Del, of course, doesn’t miss a lick, despite his 82 years, and his band of sons Ronnie McCoury on mandolin and Rob McCoury on banjo, with Jason Carter on fiddle and Alan Bartram on bass, gives this track the perfect sheen.
