Alan Jackson. What does that name mean to you? At what point in your life did you initially encounter this man? How old were you when you first heard his music? Where were you when the world stopped turning? Friends, I can answer all of those questions and much more as they pertain to my own self.

In the early nineties, I was graduating high school, and I was big time into Heavy Metal as well as Classic Country and others. I loved nineties Country and when Grunge came around it quickly turned me off, and I embraced nineties Country. I grew up with Hee Haw, where Alan Jackson was just coming out from the mailroom and onto the stage. I remember in 1990, when he released his debut album “Here In The Real World”.

I’m going to tell you one main reason I love this kind of Country…I love how simple it is. Both lyrically and musically it is simple. “I’m just a singer of simple songs, I’m not a real political man. I watch CNN, but I’m not sure I can tell you, the difference between Iraq and Iran.” Alan Jackson just stood there with a guitar and sang them sad old songs! Jackson just went out there and slaughtered people in their seats all over America.

As people like Dwight Yoakam who was going in a different direction with a Bakersfield influence paying homage to the late Buck Owens , and people like Garth Brooks was creating a marketing mega money machine, Alan Jackson just plain out sang Country Music. He paid his homage to George Jones, and he sang them sad and slow.

Since then, he has released 21 albums and other albums like Live ones and seasonal ones. He is one of the best selling artists of all time, and is a member of the Grand Ole Opry. He is a member of the Country Music Hall Of Fame, has won two Grammy awards, and has accumulated 16 CMA awards and 17 ACM awards.

So when you fast forward to now, he is preparing to embark on his final run because of health issues. He announced in 2021 that he has Charcot-Marie-Tooth disease, which is incurable. This condition greatly affects his standing for long periods of time.
