Lucinda Williams is one of the many artists I listen to now and have since the very beginning that I enjoy her music and I am not in tune with the politics overall , however I understand her views and passions. This isn’t really a political post and if you aren’t secure enough with your own mental health that you cannot enjoy someone else showing you their soul through their music…this album isn’t for you, and neither is she. \n\nShe is a true OG in the music industry and the world of music as a whole and many years ago her album “Car Wheels on a Gravel Road”<\/em> did it for me on her career as a whole.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

I was only 11 in 1980 when her album Happy Woman Blues<\/em> album came out and I remember my mother buying that album on cassette at Target with a Lyle Lovett album and I was hooked as soon as I stuck that tape in my mother’s car.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

“Everybody Knows the World’s Gone Wrong”<\/em> is a true song and I don’t care what color pill you swallow, this song was written about ME,YOU and EVERYONE else. This album is a dark and malicious message to the world that eventually “Something’s Gotta Give”<\/em> and she uses her usual gritty guitar tone to further show this point.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

This new album is in my opinion one of her best albums in the last few years in every form, there is not one bad song on this album and the songs all compliment one another in one common theme kind of like a concept album. It is not outright political however if you cannot understand it then I cannot help on that, all music is not for everyone all the time. <\/p>\n\n\n\n

The songs all feel like they belong together and they are basic in meaning: she is writing more personal feeling about the struggles of today’s world not politically, but overall in total. The song “Punchline”<\/em> really spoke to me as a Christian man, and the following blind line is always one that makes me avoid debates. I cannot overly explain religion to others.it does make for a good song.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

This album was produced by Tom Overby and Ray Kennedy, on Hwy 20 Records. My favorite song on this entire album is “We’ve Come Too Far to Turn Around”<\/em> because I just love a good slow waltz and I believe this song showcases her vocals really well. Like I said overall this album is just plain easy to enjoy and listen to, and she doesn’t need fluff and frills….Lucinda Williams is a Legend. <\/p>\n\n\n\n

You know who else is a Legend to me? Ray Kennedy who produced two of my favorite Chris Knight albums “Little Victories”<\/em> and the 2019 whomper “Almost Daylight”<\/em>, and this is his third Lucinda album here. He had some minor success in the 90’s when they were pushing the songwriter as an actual touring artist instead of their true merit.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
