This title isn’t clickbait folks, much like the Stray Cats article, this one also brings me joy to write about. This year has been up and down for me, I cannot make this show. The world of music is just become so vast and large, there is just become too much to attend EVERYTHING I LOVE out in the wild. So 14 years ago, I did the next best thing and created this blog. Hey guys, I wanted you to know this even though I cannot make it, I want you to read this personal from me. There are many people that ridicule me for spending all this time on “music nobody has ever heard of”, those are the “normies”. I am not nor have I ever been, a sheep. I been craving underground music since I was ten.
In 2006 I was going through a divorce and finding all of these bands on MySpace and Kazaa and at local record stores (which back then was slim). Split Lip Rayfield and Hank III, well these guys were in that mix for me. 500 Miles to Memphis album “Sunshine In a Shot Glass” is a classic banger album, solid from cover to cover and anyone who disagrees is nuts.
For many years these guys traveled all over the Country and released a long list of banger albums that I play at least once a month on a CD rotation. In my opinion they never received the amount of major media attention that they deserved. Along with a long list of bands that were like them in the “Alt Country’ scene of whatever you call them. I just called it good music. Americana. These guys were and still are at the forefront of that stuff in my opinion.
I just wanted them all to know that I am 55, and I am a recovered addict, and I used their music along with THOUSANDS of other bands to survive. To heal, to move forward. Someone was out there listening and one of them was me. I was guys. A long long list of good music came out of the Cincinati area, like these guys here. And this is an important event at an iconic venue funded by people I love. After two years away, 500 Miles to Memphis is coming back for one night for one important reason.
