“Cosmic Americana Gospel”…..is that what they’re calling this? Why can we just not call stuff good music? Or whatever you consider trash, just ignore it and focus on what you DO like? Well, that is what this website does and I occasionally share my beliefs and my private past, because it all ties into the music involved with the album or artist involved.

Here comes an upcoming battle we have had over here and I have had on other group pages…Spotify. Look, I agree with everyone but hear me out on this one. Without having Spotify I would not be able to do this as ardently as I do, and I would have never found him. I mean, how many of you found bands off MySpace?

I found this artist on Spotify many years ago under a suggestion I got from listening to Those Poor Bastards, and from there I became a fan of his first album the self titled Drunken Prayer. Now, at the time his current album was House of Morgan. However from there I became a fan and I noticed this album while checking my radar resources and I just got backed up a little bit.

This album emanates more love for the Traditions of music than many of the albums that were NOT overlooked and shame on me for accidentally overlooking this one. In my opinion, this man Morgan Geer is a local Legend, and an underground Legend the likes of Scott H Biram or the Revered Peyton. If I remember listening to your albums in 2010, that’s hardcore enough of a road dog for me. He carries the name Drunken Prayer like Leroy carries Hellbound Glory, with revolving lineups behind them.

Matt Patton who plays bass for the Drive By Truckers helped assemble this album choked full of old time songs that we all sang in church as children. They recorded it in Mississippi and it takes many directions with classic songs like Selfishness Of Man, written by Leon Payne and originally recorded by George Jones in 1971, he adds a Roots Music feeling to it.

Just A Closer Walk With Thee is a beautiful hymn that I still love to admire now. The Old Rugged Cross is another one I love. Nobody even really knows for sure who the heck wrote the song, it is that old. But you know what? I greatly admire the amount of love he poured into this album, and as a fan I am enjoying this album in my TOP 2025 playlist.

When They Ring Those Golden Bells was a song that I remember was cut by Dolly Parton and it describes our arrival in Heaven, as the saints and angels all welcome the saved ones home for eternity. There is a song on here that you will find on the Hank Williams collection called Tramp On The Street. Many of these songs are done in his own style, and overall the album contains some damn fine musicianship. Let me take a moment out to acknowledge them.
