And boy oh boy have I had a plethora of those, both working as an adult and partying as a teenager I had many many of both. See I been a fan of this guy for many years because he speaks to me as a man in my era. Back around 2006 when I was going through my divorce and I was finding MySpace and I was enjoying Hank III for these same reasons. It was Punk, Metal and Country and Bluegrass and well…you get it now?

His 2010 album “Hell or High Water” is one of my top 50 favorite albums in my collection, it means a lot to me for it’s historical relevance in my life, sort of WHEN I found it I NEEDED IT and it found me. The song “Lifeless” spoke to me the way it changes tempos but still compliments the rhythm. Then the next song hits the palm mutes that Mustaine made famous on Rust In Peace and yet the twang tone is something out of Bakersfield (not the current one).

His new album here called “Late Nights, Early Mornings” is a new collection of songs by him and Luke John. I spoke with him on messenger and this is what he said about the album. “My bud Luke John who does a lot of producing now said he wanted to make a different kind of record with me ,and I happened to have some new songs I had been messin’ with. So we got together and the results came pretty quick. Also changed up 2 old JGJM songs and weirded out a Hank Williams song for good measure. His band Another Society and my band Grendel Crane used to play together back in the early 90’s

Also they currently have another album coming out as well and here is the info on that one as well.

We’re pleased to announce the first Saustex Records physical release of 2026, another charity oriented tribute album from our good friends and allies, Memphis’ own Joecephus and the George Jonestown Massacre. The album is titled ‘Trippin’ Through Texas’ and does some exploratory surgery on a vast mine of gems by Texas songwriters and features another stellar guest list that includes:

Gary Floyd (Dicks, Sister Double Happiness, Black Kali Ma) Scott Ayers (Pain Teens, Jane Woe) Jeff Clayton (Anitseen) Sir Barry Hannibal (Antiseen) Cody Richardson (Richardson Seeds, Pure Luck, Hickoids) JD Pinkus (Butthole Surfers, Honky, Pure Luck) Tall Tall Trees PW Long (Wig, Mule) Jimbo Mathus (Squirrel Nut Zippers) Jeff Smith (Hickoids) Harvey McLaughlin (Hares, Sandworms, Hickoids) David Yow (Scratch Acid, Jesus Lizard, Flipper) Paul Leary (Butthole Surfers) Lydia Lunch We Are The Asteroid Alicja Trout (Lost Sounds, River City Tanlines) Nick Oliveri (Kyuss, QOTSA, Dwarves) Brett Bradford (Scratch Acid, Jefferson Trout) Tex Perkins (The Cruel Sea, Beasts of Bourbon) Matt Walker (The Cruel Sea, The Fat Rubber Band).

AND if that’s not enough to wet your chops the other good news is that it benefits San Antonio’s own High Voltage Music Program (now headed into it’s 10th year.) The registered 501c3 non-profit provides FREE after school music instruction to teens at various schools in San Antonio.

(Think ‘School of Rock’ for less fortunate kids…) Saustex will be donating $5 to High Voltage for every LP, CD or digital copy sold via Bandcamp. Any physical pre-order will also receive a full download of the album via Bandcamp as well as advance singles as they become available.

To get the ball rolling and to help my dear friend and the program’s founder and director Bell Solloa we’re going to offer a limited time discounted pre-order to help infuse some cash into the program which is expanding it’s class offering this spring semester. The album is finished and ready to go to print as of last week. We’re still making some decisions on the final number of limited run vinyl etc but this album will be a “must” for any fan of the Texas Underground. We expect that the finished product will ship no later than April 1st, 2026.
