If there is one venue or music institution that has existed since I moved here in 1996 as fun as Starwood was in it’s heyday, it would be the Grand Ole Opry, hands down. I have been there 375 times now, and I have witnessed so many male and female artists and bands there that I cannot finish making a full list of them all. I used to go once a month but now there are so many other choices to go to that I love, that it is hard to support them all.

I mean holy hell we have THIS going tonight plus Lucero is playing at the Basement East and Shane Smith and the Saints are playing the Ryman Auditorium tonight. There is a long list of good Country Music shows going on all over town and the celebration that is about to transpire on the Opry is nothing short of amazing.

I mean how many of you remember the classic line “I am Little Jimmy Dickens or Willie Nelson after taxes”or the million other one liner jokes he used to come out and tell us every week. Nobody cared how corny they were…THAT WAS COMEDY.

I did not know him in person and I only met him three times however I truly used his music and his comedy to overcome some bad times in my life, after all isn’t that what music is for? I know for a fact that the side of Jimmy Dickens I remember was the butt of so many jokes on and off the Opry. Like the time he stood up on a folding chair to be even up high with Trace Adkins and then there was that funny Brad Paisley video where they were fishing in that boat and he was too small to see over the side of the boat but still fishing. Many of the stars of the 90s and later yet all huddled around him in his last days on the Opry, which was his birthday. Six days later he was gone. January 2nd 2015 the Opry became less funny, and I hope that tonight he will fill up the Opry House with his laughter and his love. You sure were quite a doll Raggedy Ann….yes…quite a doll. Right Here is where you want to tune in to in order to hear this event online.
