Yesterday afternoon I saw on social media that the Ameripolitan Awards (operated by Dale Watson and Celine Lee) updated their logos and cover pictures, which prompted me to check their website. Upon doing this, it has a big ribbon on their website that says “Returning in 2027”. Right now, I have just reached out to them to get any more info. Here are some memories I have of a past awards show in Memphis. I did go one year. pictured below is the new logo. Some memories below:
I went for one of the years they moved it to Memphis in 2019, I was supposed to go the next year and I ended up having to ‘go on a little vacation” for rehab. See most of you know this but I am a pillhead and a heroin addict and an alcoholic, and I am now six years sober! I think Dale Watson would be proud of me, cause being sober is Outlaw as crap.
The year before that I was in active addiction but man did we celebrate some wonderful friendships, I haven’t seen many of these folks for some time now, but I am seeking to change that by setting this up to be my retirement, and my life’s onus. Right now I have upcoming articles from many different scenes upcoming next month.
I went to all of the showcases three days before the actual awards show, and at that time Jesse Daniel and Summer Dean were just becoming more popular in the underground community. I got to sing Amazing Grace in an Uber with the Reeves Brothers. Those showcase sets at Minglewood Hall were cool as shit.
Ghosts. So many ghosts are now watching over our stages from above, and I am sure that many of them are bestowing their blessings upon festivals as well. Through the years many of my personal favorite friends and many of my favorite bands have received awards in the past, and I hope that they can continue this again.
