A rock band without a drummer, a bluegrass band without a fiddler. To the gentlemen of The Dead South, a self-styled 4-piece string band from Regina, Saskatchewan, it’s about how, not what, you play. The Dead South’s combination of cello, mandolin, guitar and banjo has all the hallmarks of a group tuned to bygone times, but with their signature sleight of hand, The Dead South find distinctly ­modern bathos in this old time rigging.

The Reverend Peyton’s Big Damn Band has built its reputation the long, slow, hard way. After 12 years of playing as many as 300 shows each year, Rev. Peyton, the world’s foremost country blues finger-style picker, along with the biggest little band in the country has pieced together one of the most dedicated followings out there.

Epic 3-Day Bluegrass Underground event is a music festival underground with the very best in American roots music.

Jam-packed into one epic weekend of underground concerts, the Bluegrass Underground PBS TV taping will treat audiences to performances by bonafide legends like Asleep At The Wheel and Blind Boys of Alabama, rising stars like groove-driven jam band Goose, psychedelic soul Black Pumas, cutting-edge singer-songwriters Cam, Yola and Sam Lewis, harmonious duos Mandolin Orange and three-time GRAMMY nominated Milk Carton Kids as well as instrumental fireworks from bluegrass phenom, Molly Tuttle, and a surprise act to be announced in the coming weeks.

Bluegrass Underground is underwritten on PBS by Tennessee Tourism and by Grundy County, TN. The 12 episode series is presented to PBS nationally in partnership with WCTE in Cookeville, TN, which serves the Upper Cumberland and Middle Tennessee.

Three million years in the making, The Caverns welcomes all to the historic Season X taping of the iconic PBS television series, Bluegrass Underground.
