Dallas Moore is back with his newest studio album Tryin’ To Be A Blessing.  This album is a follow up to 2018’s Mr. Honky Tonk. Country music has always had a Saturday night and Sunday morning kind of feel to it.  This record is the Sunday morning vibe compared to Mr. Honky Tonk’s Saturday nights. Here we find a much more sober and mellow Dallas Moore. I really dig the juxtaposition between this album and his last.

“Mama & Daddy” kicks off the album with Dallas paying tribute to his parents on a great honky tonk track.  I especially love the honky tonk piano on this one. It’s a great track that will be a fan favorite live. Dallas slows things down a bit with “Everything But You”.  This track finds Dallas longing for the one thing he’s missing. It’s a well written love song that has some great pedal steel work throughout.

The title track sees Dallas looking inward and trying to be a blessing through life, love and religion.  There is some nice harmonica work on this one that changes the sound from the previous tracks. This track certainly represents the Sunday mornings and does it well.  Another favorite track is “You Saved Me From Me”. This is another track that continues the religious themes from earlier. Dallas finds an angel that saves him from his darkest times.  It’s a really great track that combines the themes of love and religion that run through this album together.

There are also two great covers to end the album.  “Lovin’ On Back Streets” is a song first released by Mel Street in 1972 and covered by Daryl Singletary more recently.  The other is “Lodi” which is Creedence Clearwater Revival from their third album Green River. Both of these covers are great pieces to end the album with

You can always count on Dallas Moore for a great album of country music and this one doesn’t disappoint.  This was his second album produced by Dean Miller and between this and Mr. Honky Tonk, I think Dallas has found his sound.  I highly recommend this record and it is out everywhere as of October 4th, 2019. Dallas Moore is always on the road touring and you can find out where on his website.
