It’s festival time for me and my readers, and it looks like most festivals in 2022 will have no covid restrictions anymore. So I’m going to be reverting back to my old format of making articles for all of my favorite festivals from now on.
This iconic Texas music festival has been around for 35 YEARS, so there is no doubt that they know how to arrange an overwhelming experience for every music fan, no matter what genres you love! Many of these festivals are now including some of the long forgotten Legends of their respected genres like Miss Tanya Tucker and The Killer himself Mr. Jerry Lee Lewis, so now is the perfect opportunity to go see them and discover some new bands.
Making Magic Happen Since 1987
For more than 35 years and counting, the Old Settler’s Music Festival brings American roots music lovers together for camping, community, and celebration. As one of Central Texas’ signature music events, our festival features Americana music — roots, folk, acoustic, jazz, blues, bluegrass, singer-songwriter, gospel, country — from local favorites and award-winning artists from around the world. Three campgrounds provide more than 29 acres of tree-covered parkland for gathering, camping, and late night jams by the campfire. Eclectic arts and crafts, delectable food, and ice-cold local libations round out the magical experience.
The festival is represented at numerous music events including the International Folk Alliance Conference, the Americana Music Festival & Conference, South By Southwest, the International Bluegrass Music Association World of Bluegrass, and the International Music Festival Conference.
Our Forever Home
The Old Settler’s Music Festival was first held in Old Settlers Park in Round Rock, Texas. The festival then moved to Stone Mountain Events Center in Dripping Springs, Texas, and later to the Salt Lick BBQ Pavilion and Camp Ben McCulloch in Driftwood, Texas. In 2018, the festival moved to its forever home, The Old Settler’s Homestead in Tilmon, Texas — 145 acres of rolling meadows and tree-covered campgrounds just a short, relaxing drive southeast of Austin.
Our Reputation
Widely recognized for our contribution to Central Texas culture, the Old Settler’s Music Festival showcases more than 30 bands performing for 16,000 roots-music fans each year, and is considered among the major events that help the region sustain its status as the “live music capital of the world.” And now, as we plant roots of our own at The Old Settler’s Homestead, we cement our status as the sole roots music and camping festival in Central Texas. “OSMF has become an elite musical event without sacrificing the community vibe that built it.” (Austin Chronicle, 2019)
From their website:
Grab your festival garb and your camping gear. Hop on a plane, train, or automobile — however you can — to get to the most unique, magical music celebration in Central Texas. Four days of Music, Camping, Community, and Connection. There’s nothing like it. With 145 acres of rolling hills, meadows, and tree-covered campgrounds, the festival grounds offers plenty of room to spread out. Discover new artists, make lasting friendships, check out the pickin’ circles, camp under the stars, and make memories you will cherish forever.
Electricity in the Campgrounds
Electricity distribution panels are located throughout the campgrounds with 30 amp, 50 amp, and 110 volt connections. All Old Settler’s campground electricity is powered by wind energy, keeping true to our sustainability and green initiatives. All power cords plugged into the distribution panel require an Electrical Permit, which you can purchase through the ticket website. You may also need an extension cord to reach the distribution panel. If you are in an RV, you may need a converter to convert a 50 amp to a 30 amp based on availability. Old Setter’s will have a limited number of extension cords and converters available for rent.
Health and Safety
Here at the Old Settler’s Music Festival, the safety of the artists, crew, attendees of the event, and our community are very important to us. As a result, we are following the current COVID-19 pandemic closely. Old Settler’s Music Festival is fortunate to be an outdoor event taking place across 145 acres, which creates a safer environment to enjoy live music. Yet, we must all acknowledge that there is still a risk of exposure to COVID-19 at a gathering of people, and by attending, you assume the risk of exposure to the virus.
In accordance with current, local COVID-19 guidelines, at this time there will be no vaccination, testing, or masking requirements at Old Settler’s Music Festival 2022. We urge all guests and staff to be considerate of our community and stay home if you don’t feel well. We will communicate details of any changes to these guidelines as early as possible, and share them on this website and through our social media channel.
