The 10th Anniversary of WinterWonderGrass Steamboat is on the horizon, and it’s hard to believe. Seems just yesterday we were jammed into a frozen parking lot in Edwards, CO, with a dream, somewhat of a plan, and a love of bluegrass. It’s been a rewarding journey to follow the burgeoning rise of the scene, and find each other.

Hello my beloved friends out there in cyberland, and HEY THANKS for reading my website for so many years. We have indeed implemented a few new features on this new site, as well as some of my old ongoing projects like this one: our yearly festival features. I’d like to take some time out here to touch on some things about this one in Colorado at Steamboat Springs ( YES the same one as the Red Dirt one ).

I try my ardent best to make individual ones for each of my yearly festivals on my list, however sometimes other news keeps me from that objective. You’re going to need to dress very warm for this one folks because even though there are three stages with heated areas, this is an outdoor festival. I’ll try to post as much information as I can involving some of these festivals!

This is one of the many festivals on my list that I have not yet attended, mostly because I just cannot get off work that early in the year. Every year they release a dynamic lineup, and this year they have NOT disappointing me for sure. Some of these festival articles I post a bunch of motel choices, due to this being a resort based area, I have a few options below.

I’m particularly crazy about the top 4 bands here, one of them being the Infamous Stringdusters, whom released a banger of an album last year called “Toward The Fray”. They have grown a lot since their first album which was 2007’s fork in the road, especially since they only have two ex members. Many of these legendary Jamgrass bands have suffered some severe lineup changes and overall sound changes, but not with this institution. This entire band was another of the many early influences to my musical journey in the early 2000’s.

Another big name on the lineup list here is Paul Cauthen. You may or may not have heard anything about his name in the local music community, and his eclectic form of Country juxtaposed with Disco and Funk and many other forms of music. He puts on one hell of a live show, and I think he will fit in quite nice with this particular festival.

MISSION

We aim to cultivate and nurture the relationship between nature, authentic music, and communal family, creating a vehicle for inspiration. When we come together with open hearts and open minds, bringing all of our differences and unique opinions, we begin to dissolve the illusion of separation from one another. Our intention is to create a platform for artists, vendors, attendees, and our planet to unite as one – connecting the community.

MEDIA

WinterWonderGrass began in 2013 as a tiny, homegrown music festival in a parking lot in Edwards and is now returning for its seventh year in 2019 at its new home in Steamboat Springs, with sister festivals in Lake Tahoe, California, and Stratton, Vermont. The trifecta that founder Scotty Stoughton and his team have created over the past seven years is not only tremendously impressive but is also a blessing for bluegrass and string music fans across the nation. Stoughton and crew are also the faces behind Campout for the Cause, and though they’re not strangers on how to carefully curate a near-perfect festival, the WinterWonderGrasses are officially in a league of their own.” – 303 MAGAZINE

ARTISTS

Performing live music, for us, is a conversation with the audience. it’s a relationship between the musicians and the listeners built on energy and trust. WinterWonderGrass makes that exchange so much more profound by changing the playing field. Something about enduring the cold, being in the elements together, and raging thru [sic] snowfall makes the reward so much greater for both parties.” – Paul Hoffman (Greensky Bluegrass)

“This festival really hits home for me coming from the North. There’s something about fully embracing the great outdoors in all it’s magnificence that gives the music a vivid glow like you’ve never experienced it before.” – Lindsay Lou

ABOUT THE FOUNDER

At the heart of all his endeavors, Scotty Stoughton is an artist. He lives and breathes music and the world that holds its sound waves. Onstage performing with Bonfire Dub or behind the scenes producing his many festivals and events, including WinterWonderGrass and Campout for the Cause, Stoughton values music as more than a platform where rhythm meets beat.

For him, it’s an expression that sets the stage for a life worth living, a vision worth having and a dream worth creating. Bonfire Entertainment puts a spotlight on community and interpersonal connection, as well as the overall impact we have on the environment. Stoughton finds solace and inspiration in the natural world, especially on the water, and is the co-founder of Stand Up Paddle Colorado. His support of international non-profit organizations, along with local involvement through community events, always keeps his hands moving quickly without ever losing the beat.
