This is another of those album anniversary articles that I have been making this past week for my fellow vinyl collectors as well as my fellow fans. Matt Woods is an act that I truly enjoy live, and even though I haven’t encountered him live in a few years he is one of the best live acts ever. He played Muddy Roots one year on the big wood stage and I will never forget his performance of “Deadman’s Blues”. Just an absolutely beautiful climax in that song, and all of the songs are well written. This album is by far one of my top favorite 100 albums of all time and I keep those 100 in a weekly CD rotation and some vinyl.

Even though the album opens slowly with two songs that possess a waltz theme, his brilliance as a Songwriter go into the song “Snack Bar Mary and the Tin Pin Prince”. If you like a story song that paints a vivid scene with a wonderful flow, this is your song.

“West Texas Wind” talks about getting bit by the Classic Country bug and drifting around to those old songs we grew up with. Just like the eleven songs that embellish the album all of the songs are repeated in a solitary confinement version…a more up close version described in the press release here.

“Ain’t No Living” is the opening song that sets the mood for the ambiance of the whole album. You find out right away that it’s not easy drifting around doing what he does but it’s all he loves to do.

In other news…
A lot of what has been and continues to be happening here these days has to do with gearing up for the coming of this release. But, I am happy to report that we are making headway on getting some new music out into the world. I know y’all have been wondering when these new songs will get out there and I appreciate your patience.

With that all underway, I continue to hit the road. I am extra excited to announce we will be playing a few full band shows in Florida October 30 through November 3 to celebrate the 10 year anniversary of the Brushy Mountain record and we will will be playing the album in full! Details and tickets for those shows will be announced real soon, too! In the meantime, please make a point to catch one of the few solo shows I have coming up. They are listed below. As always, thank you so much for the continued support! None of this is possible without y’all.

See you at the show!
-Matt
