One of the many outlets of Country Music that I enjoy frequently studying is that of the musicians on the backside of the business, that the ordinary fan often neglects…the backup band. So often we forget to mention those that help make the mega stars shine as they often put their own signature sound to the vocals, like Mr. Don Rich and Mr. Roy Nichols did for the Bakersfield community.
I thoroughly enjoy reading about people like Mr. Tim Atwood and Mr. Hoot Hester, and now we can all read about his career as a session musician and backing guitarist from a career that spans six decades. “The Man In Back” will share stories of working on songs like the Dallas Frazier mega hit “Elvira”, and one of Country Music’s most beloved songs. the George Jones hit “He Stopped Loving Her Today”.
He was celebrated in December during the Opry performance and also in his hometown of Benson North Carolina, may has been designated as Jimmy Capps Month. In 2014 he was inducted into the North Carolina Music Hall Of Fame, and has accumulated many other accolades. Currently he can be seen every week on RFD-TV’s Larry’s Country Diner as the guitar-playing “Sheriff,” and also on the Country’s Family Reunion shows.
“The Man in Back” also takes you inside the studio as Jimmy Capps played guitar on some of the most important songs in Country Music history including:
- • Kenny Rogers – The Gambler
- • Barbara Mandrell – I Was Country When Country Wasn’t Cool
- • George Jones – He Stopped Loving Her Today
- • Tammy Wynette – Stand By Your Man
- • The Oak Ridge Boys – Elvira
- • Ronnie Milsap – Smoky Mountain Rain
- • Conway Twitty – The Rose
- • George Strait – Amarillo By Morning
